This will be the last post on this blog.
It all began when I was ill, miserable, and stuck in Sweden due to circumstances not of my own design. Absorbing a daily dose of Swedish newspapers, radio and TV news created an incredible frustration with the bias, the lies, and the propaganda most Swedes seem to swallow whole. For the sake of my career and for the sake of social relationships, being in favor of capitalism, family values, the death penalty, hard work, and a severe reduction of welfare programs are all opinions kept quiet. Smiling politely as one idiotic ideological idea after another is accepted as scientific fact is a fact of life here, from elevating people to positions of power because of their gender/race/age/whatever rather than their merits to ruining our industry with regulations, taxes, and mythological carbon credits.
This blog kept me going. It was a chance to vent, to reflect, and then vent some more. Unlike most left-wing blogs, I allowed virtually all comments. I replied to many. Some were by the lunatic left, others by rabid racists, but a surprising number were by intelligent, ambitious, critically reflecting individuals who saw through the Matrix-like din of Swedish political correctness and came to their own conclusions.
Now things have changed. Since almost a year I am abroad working. I’m happy with my job and my life. I’m healthy again. The Swedish people I meet here often share my values and beliefs, and the lack of “Jante” is refreshing. In a way, I am far, far less political today than I was, far more relaxed. Perhaps it is because now I don’t need to be on the defensive, waiting for an ideological insult or sucker-punch everytime I open a newspaper or turn on the TV. At the same time, Sweden seems to have turned to the right (at least somewhat, and everything is of course relative). The Moderates are the biggest party, the rest of Europe is dying from socialist welfare debt, and Obama is finally being seen for the social democrat that he is. We’ll see if this sovereign debt crisis turns into Atlas Shrugged, or if we’ll see another few decades of statism.
My advice (worthless and for free and unasked for, as most advice is đ is to smile and adapt to whatever system you are caught in. Don’t make waves. Work harder, work smarter, and gain influence. Then make changes, or get transferred, or do whatever you need to do to make life better for yourself and your family, if you have one. Save your frustration with the collectivist horror show we call Europe for blogs or philosophical 3 am debates with friends. Once you have succeeded, THEN you can tell the greedy bastards and their politicial correctness to **** off.
See you on the other side of Perdition.
