The TARP is Modern-Day Bloodletting

leechIt struck me a while ago how Bush and Obama, with their so called Troubled Assets Relief Program, are doing to the economy what doctors in the Dark Ages did to ill patients. Much like Medieval quacks, those in charge are applying leeches to attempt to cure the patient.

Imagine the economy in the form of a human body, with corporations as cells and organs. The corrupt, failing, and outright stupid companies that are on their way to fail can be seen as an infection of healthy cells, an infection that spreads further and further. They’re causing a fever as the body tries to fight them off, and the patient is understandably nervous.

And thus arrives the doctor, namely the big-government politicians, with the perfect solution: Drain the blood of the patient, and everything will be fine.

It’s so backward as to be frightening. Instead of helping the good companies, they’re taking money from them to finance the survival of the bad ones. It’s just like using leeches to drain the blood of an already weak patient, except that in one sense it’s even worse: The medieval doctors at least threw out the drained blood. Our modern day political quacks are force-feeding it back to the infected organs!

Is it any wonder our economy can’t heal?
