Margaret Thatcher

Watching the morning news before heading off to work, I came to be reminded once again of how the politicians of today fail to measure up to those that came before. Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan were two shining beacons of hope in a black sea of collectivism, misery, and despair. When everyone thought the West was collapsing, they reformed our economies, gave moral support to families and individuals, created countless jobs, and ended the Cold War in decisive victory. They taught that by striving for our individual best, we all benefit. And that just because a fat man is standing beside a skinny one, it doesn’t mean he stole all the other’s food.

They brought back individual freedom where before there was the gray tyranny of the majority, where each special interest group is trying to plunder as much from society as possible. Much like now, actually.

We could sorely use another leader advocating liberty and hope right now, rather than the big-government administrators like Reinfeldt and Brown. As Margaret Thatcher had written outside of 10 Downing Street:

Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope.
